This project in Colbost explores the challenges of designing a large property in a sensitive location. The overall mass is broken down into different components and a varied palette of external materials used to further articulate the different elements.
The main form is of traditional footprint but one and three-quarter storey, so that the upper level can have full size windows to share the fantastic panoramic view - of the Isle of Harris, Loch Dunvegan and the Cuillin - that the full height living spaces below enjoy.
A single-storey bedroom wing of contrasting roof pitch sits back from the main house, while a further single-storey element, evoking the character of a lean-to agricultural shed, runs behind the house. This accommodates secondary elements such as the kitchen and laundry.
This house is available for luxury bed and breakfast and can be seen in further detail here – Hillstone Lodge
