This house, sitting on the seaward side of the road at the very northern tip of Skye, was designed to minimise its overall visual impact and to withstand the extreme weather environment. The house sits low in the landscape below a turf roof, the larch cladding faded to a beautiful silver tone.
This project was profiled on Channel Four's Grand Designs programme. The verdict of Kevin McCloud was that this was one of his favourite houses ever. The programme can be seen again on 4oD.
The contract ran very smoothly and demonstrated to the wider public that contemporary design, in a rural context, can be achieved on a modest budget.
